Lot Essay
Rolex launched the GMT-Master in 1954 in order to provide pilots a watch that could read 24-hour time for a selected time zone. Following the success of this model, in circa 1959 Rolex introduced its successor, the reference 1675, which Rolex produced until circa 1980. The present example features a rivet Oyster bracelet and beautiful blue and fuchsia bezel. The inside of the case back is stamped I.68, indicating it was made in the first quarter of 1968. These GMT-Masters with Pepsi bezels where the red half has faded to fuchsia are referred to as the “Pink Panther” and are highly sought after by collectors because their rarity and beauty.

The case and bracelet are in good condition with scratches. The rivet Oyster bracelet is intact and has some stretch. The inside of the clasp on the bracelet is hand engraved, “1-71”. Both sets of lugs have rub marks between them on the case. Despite the rub marks, the reference and serial numbers are still visible. The dial appears to be original. The hands appear to be original, however the lume is a slightly darker color than the luminescent material on the dial. The red half of the bezel has faded to a fuchsia color. The bezel insert has some blue missing above the triangle at 12 o'clock. The movement is in working order at the time of cataloging, consistent with the age of the watch. A service is recommended given the age of the watch.
