Lot Essay

Rolex launched the GMT-Master in 1954 in order to provide pilots a watch that could read 24-hour time for a selected time zone. Following the success of this model, in circa 1959 Rolex introduced its successor, the reference 1675, which Rolex produced until circa 1980. The present example features a rivet Oyster bracelet and beautiful blue and fuchsia bezel. The inside of the case back is stamped I.68, indicating it was made in the first quarter of 1968. These GMT-Masters with Pepsi bezels where the red half has faded to fuchsia are referred to as the “Pink Panther” and are highly sought after by collectors because their rarity and beauty.
