Lot Essay
The reference 5513 was introduced in 1962. The early 5513 Submariners came with gilt dials, such as the present example, and in the mid-1960s Rolex began using matte black dials. The inside case back is stamped 5513 III.64 meaning it was produced in the third quarter of 1964. This particular example features the "Bart Simpson" coronet due to its shape similar to the head of Bart Simpson, who is a character from the popular animated television program, The Simpsons.

The dial and hands appear to be original and have developed patina. The dial does not retain its original gloss. The bezel insert and pearl appear to be replacements. This watch has 580 end links and a 7838 bracelet. The movement is in working order at the time of cataloging, consistent with the age of the watch.
