Lot Essay
This Vacheron Constantin reference 4538 is a beautiful and oversized time only wristwatch. This model features flared lugs, applied Arabic and baton hour markers, and a central sweep seconds hand. These oversized watches from the 1950s are highly sought after because of the contemporary size coupled with their classic vintage style.

The case is in good condition with scratches. The case appears to be polished. The hallmark on the side of the case at 4 o’clock shows signs of polishing, but is visible. The 9 o’clock side of the case has signs of being opened between the case and case back. The hands appear to be original. The dial appears to be refinished and reprinted. The dial has developed a light patina. The case back is engraved, “To Mario M. Muiu por 30 Anos de corporacion oficiente e amigia Fernando E. Lee 15 – 8 – 1953”. The movement is in working order at the time of cataloging, consistent with the age of the watch. A service is recommended given the age of the watch.
