Lot Essay

The Pilot Chronograph “Saint Exupery” is a timepiece dedicated to the author and aviation luminary Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. IWC’s connection to Saint-Exupéry and the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Foundation is through shared values of humanism, aviation and inventiveness. Inextricably linked through history, Saint-Exupéry's achievements as a pioneer in aviation can be traced back over 80 years, around the time that IWC launched their first editions of the now quintessential Pilot designs. In addition to being an icon of the air, Saint-Exupéry was the accomplished author of “Night Flight.” This watch marks the 75th anniversary of the book being published in 1931. There were 250 pieces made in pink gold and this is number 167.
