Lot Essay

The watch is consigned by a private collector. It is fitted with the “Spezimatik” cal. 75 automatic movement with 26 jewels developed by the Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe or GUB in the former German Democratic Republic in the late 1960s.

The publically owned VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe (Glashütte Watch Factories) was founded in July 1950 through the merger of the local watch manufacturers UROFA, UFAG, VEB Lange (formerly A. Lange & Söhne) and others. The difficulties in importing goods from outside the German Democratic Republic requested a considerable production autonomy. Following the reunification of Germany in 1990 the VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe were transformed into Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe GmbH, the latter being the official legal heir to all formerly independent watch companies active in Glashütte until 1950.
