Lot Essay

Heuer introduced the Monaco reference 1133 in 1969 as part of a line of automatic chronographs. The self-winding chronograph was a completely new innovation at that time. This Monaco reference 1533G was a successor to the 1133G. Like all metallic Monaco dials, the shades of the dial’s and sub register’s colors differ depending on the lighting. The Monaco was equipped with an unusual square-shaped case made by Piquerez. When the caliber 15 were launched, Heuer was still using the identical 1133 cases. It is usual to see 1533 cases stamped 1133 like this example, part of the first batch with serials 162’446. Piguerez was only asked later to stamp the cases 1533 from the 25xxxx batch.
