Lot Essay

Le Phare was founded by Charles Barbezat-Baillot (1847-1938) and Henry Guye (1838-1877). Initially named after the founders, the company name was changed from Guye & Barbezat to Le Phare in 1888. From its very beginnings, Le Phare specialized in the production of complication watches, including repeaters, calendars and chronographs. In 1915, Zenith briefly took over the company before relinquishing control again in 1922. During the 1940s and 1950s, Le Phare exhibited at the Basel Watch Fair and advertised their chronograph and other complication watches.
