Lot Essay

The Rolex Sky-Dweller model is a very unusual and attractive dual-time wristwatch with its red triangle indicating the home time while its conventional hands can be set to local time, a second time zone. An annual calendar can distinguish between 30- and 31-day months and needs adjustment only once a year, at the end of February. The twelve windows to the dial above each Arabic numeral indicated the month. The crown is used to wind the watch and set home and local time. The desired function is selected by rotating the bezel.

With its large and heavy case, the present watch further stands out due to its engraved case back, showcasing the Khanjar emblem that is the national emblem of Oman. Timepieces made for the Sultanate of Oman have grown in the hearts and minds of collectors thanks to their rarity, customization and royal connection, and are now extremely collectible pieces.
