Lot Essay

This unusual mid-sized 18K gold Chronograph wristwatch was made by the Buttes Watch Company (manufacturer of B.W.C., BUT and Butex watch models, founded in 1924) in Switzerland around 1950. Equipped with the famous Valjoux Cal. 69 – one of the rarest and smallest chronograph calibers produced from 1936 until 1966 by Valjoux with a run of only 3964 pieces in total – this watch is a good example for an early square chronograph wristwatch and collectable regarding the same configuration and features than much more prominent chronograph wristwatches like the famous Rolex Ref. 3529.
