The present lot is a fine example of one of the limited edition racing watches that Gerard-Perregaux produced when serving as the official partner of Ferrari. The concept of the “Ferarri Watch” has its own fabled role within the history of haute horology. The saga began in the 1950s when Ferrari founder, Enzo Ferrari, would order six custom made watches a year to be gifted amongst his friends as well as racers who victoriously drove Ferraris in races such as Italy’s Mille Miglia. Ferrari continued to commission these custom watches until the 1970s when the brand began to partner with an official timekeeper. Girard-Perregaux, a long-time favorite of Ferrari, served as the official timekeeper from 1994-2004, one of the longest consecutive spans of any brand. The present lot is exemplary of Girard-Perregaux’s predisposition for designing understated sportiness and classic elegance, its silvered dial makes an appealing home for the iconic prancing insignia, rendered in a debonair blue.
