Lot Essay

Montblanc, recognizable to many aficionados for their luxury pens, debuted as a watchmaker in 1997. The first timepiece they released, the Meisterstuck, took many design cues from the iconic pen of the same name and was met with great success, setting the stage for Montblanc to establish itself as a maker of haute horology. The initial Meistertsuck watches had deep black dails ment to mimic the color of the classic pen. Similarly, the present lot – a unique edition released in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the pen design—imitates some of the design aspects of the unique pen edition such as small diamond details and prominent display of Montblanc’s star emblem. The present lot is a unique example of an early and seminal design for a watch born from a fascination with fine craftsmanship and demonstrates that a passion for engineering and luxury can transform and progress throughout a wide range of novelty creations: from pens to watches.
