Lot Essay
The reference 1527 came out in 1942 and was produced until 1950. Patek offered this model in yellow gold (like the one being offered), pink gold, platinum and steel. This watch was offered with subsidiary seconds or sweep seconds, like the present example. The sweep seconds’ feature started being offered in 1943 and was only available in yellow or pink gold. The present example features sweep seconds and a two-tone silvered dial with the retailer “Gueblin” signed at 6 o’clock. The gold cases were made by Emile Vichet and the dials were produced by Stern Freres.

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The case is in good condition with few scratches. The case appears to have been polished. The case back is in good condition with an inscription that reads, "Daniel M. Spohn, Goshen, Ind." The dial, hands, and hour markers have developed a light patina. The dial appears to be re-printed. There is some corrosion to the outer part of the dial near 8 o'clock. The outer track is smudged between 12 and 1 o'clock. There are small scratches on the dial near 3 o'clock. The buckle is in good condition with scratches. The movement has scratches on the base plate. The movement is in working order at the time of cataloging, consistent with the age of the watch. The movement has not been tested for accuracy. A service is recommended given the age of the watch.
