Lot Essay

Rolex launched the GMT-Master in 1954 in order to provide pilots a watch that could read 24 hour time for a selected time zone. Following the success of this model, in 1959 Rolex introduced its successor, the reference 1675, which Rolex produced until 1980. This example features a beautifully faded bezel that has turned light blue and a purple-ish color giving some uniqueness to this GMT. The movement is stamped "ROX" indicating it was made for the US market. The inside case back is stamped, “II 66,” indicating is it from the second quarter of 1966. This specific example features a “Mark 0” matte dial. This dial is the transitional one found on some 1675’s between the gilt dial GMT’s and the Mark 1 dials with the long E. Furthermore, this watch still retains the correct small GMT hand.
