Lot Essay

This watch is made from a US 20 dollar coin from 1906. Coin watches were offered by all the great makers such as Patek Philippe, Rolex, Cartier, Piaget, Audemars Piguet, and last but not least OMEGA. OMEGA coin watches are seldom seen at auction and this particular example is in excellent condition in the box with the original strap and gold buckle. Coin watches are interesting because they are actually made from two coins and conceal a watch inside. This particular example features a button on the side of the case at 3 o'clock which exposes the dial. The back of the inside of the case features the key makers mark number 122, which means that Guyot & Cie. SA from La Chaux-de-Fonds, made the case. This maker made coin-watch cases for many of the companies that offered coin-watches.
