Lot Essay

Patek Philippe made a number of different types of repeating watches ranging from quarter to minute repeaters. However, it is the five minute repeater that is the rarest, which strikes the hours on one gong and then the number of five-minute periods after the hour on the second gong.

The dial of this watch exemplifies the highest form of the arts of engraving and dial making. The tight hinge opens to reveal a cuvette (dust cover) signed Patek Philippe with the movement number.
