Lot Essay

Two aesthetic traits highlight this watch. The first one is its wonderfully preserved dial. Its design can be considered somehow transitional: it is already much cleaner than the style in fashion just few years before – minimalist dials are typical of the second half of the century – but the two tone finish, Arabic and baton numerals and outer circle are reminiscent of the 1930s and 40s. The second trait is its lugs: so-called corne de vache – “bull’s horn” – for obvious reasons, this extremely recognizable and iconic design is mostly associated with Vacheron Constantin. This Patek Philippe exception is as unusual as it is eye-pleasing and collectible.
