Lot Essay

While Patek Philippe is best known for their simple case designs, epitomized by the “calatrava” case, the company did not shy away from more eclectic shapes, although these remain a minority in their overall production. The present timepiece represents one such exception: in production from 1958 to 1966, ref. 2592 is distinguished by its unusual lugs’ design, which are joined to the case with a “flap” underneath the outer rim of the bezel. This solution gives the impression that the lugs are somehow floating beyond the case, without a physical connection to it. The pink gold case, one of the most charming and sought-after metals in watchmaking, is the final touch of rarity to this remarkable, whimsical and extremely well preserved timepiece.
