Rolex debuted the Datejust in 1954 and it has been in production ever since. The Datejust is an iconic Rolex and a cornerstone of the collection. This particular example features a fluted bezel, alpha hands, and an underline dial, referring to the fact it has a small line under the “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified” text on the bottom of the dial. Many believe the underline is supposed to refer to the luminous material mixture change from radium to tritium. Rolex watches with underline dials are in great demand by collectors.
