Lot Essay
The reference 1655 originally launched in 1971 and was specifically designed for cave explorers. This model features a fixed bezel with 24-hour display and a 24-hour hand that can be set to distinguish day from night hours. The inside of the case back is stamped II.71 indicating it is from the second quarter of 1971. This model is known as the "Steve McQueen" amongst collectors. The Explorer II reference 1655 remains an icon and this watch would be a great addition to a watch collection.

The case and bracelet are in good condition with scratches throughout. The sides of the case has nicks and deeper scratches. The upper crown guard has scratches on the edge. The bracelet has stretch. The bezel is scratched and has light nicks throughout. The bezel is missing most of the paint from the numbers. The dial and hands appear to be original and have developed patina. The crystal has some scratches. The luminescent material in the hands and on the dial has darkened. This watch has a 7836 bracelet and 280 end links. The movement is in working order at the time of cataloging, consistent with the age of the watch. The movement has not been tested for accuracy. A service is recommended given the age of the watch.
