Lot Essay

The present timepiece features a number of interesting traits. First and foremost comes its remarkable condition of both case and dial. It is obvious that the watch was treated with care throughout its entire life and possibly never underwent aesthetic interventions. The dial itself presents an engraved enameled inscription, an extremely complex technique used by Rolex only up to the 1940s. Rolex engraved enameled dials are extremely rare, being only a fraction of the total production. Other interesting traits are the Glasgow import marks present to the inside of the case back, and the last three digits of the case number repeated inside the band. Finally, the engraving “das H. Valentine” adds a touch of flair and mystery to this remarkable timepiece.
