Lot Essay
Rebecca's Pick The present watch is an attractive example of a 1960s Rolex watch with a timeless aesthetic. The watch has a black matte Explorer-style dial with 3, 6 and 9 in luminous Arabic numerals. It is identical to the version with "Commando" printed on the dial, which was retailed at Abercrombie & Fitch according to period advertisements. Due to its basic mechanical movement, the reference 6429 is understood to have been the least expensive man's watch from Rolex at the time and was sold at U.S. military base exchanges around the world. This example was produced for the American market as indicated by the ROW export stamp found on the movement.
