Lot Essay

Rolex launched the GMT-Master in 1954 in order to provide pilots a watch that could read 24 hour time for a selected time zone. Rolex has been improving the GMT-Master and it remains a cornerstone of current Rolex models. This particular example has a Z-Serial indicating it is from 2006. This GMT is from the last year before Rolex changed the case size and started using ceramic bezels for this model. This example features the case with no holes in the lugs as well as the "II" at the end of GMT-Master rather than the typical Roman numeral style. These "Z-Serial" GMT Master's are highly sought after by collectors because of the slight dial variation and because they are the last GMT's before the ceramic bezels.
