Eric's Pick
The reference 2540 was in production from 1954 until 1960. This was Patek Philippe’s first square watch with an automatic movement. This model features the legendary 12’’’600 movement which remains regarded as one of the best automatic movements ever made. The same movement is found in the reference 2526, which was Patek Philippe’s first automatic wristwatch. This particular example was born with sculpted lugs and a leather strap however the original owner commissioned Gubelin to add the present bracelet in in 1973. The bracelet found on the watch has the same design as those found only on the reference 3587, “Beta-21” wristwatch. These bracelets have an unusual “steampunk” sort of design and this may be the only rectangular automatic watch in the world with this bracelet. The watch is property of the family of the original owner.
