Lot Essay

The Santos model was created in 1904 at the request of its name sake, Alberto Santos-Dumont, who was an aviator and wanted a watch he could wear on his wrist while flying, instead of a pocket watch. Cartier marked a century of the Santos with the introduction of the Santos 100, a new larger version of the classic Santos. This particular model is in stainless steel. The dial features luminous sword hands and the Cartier secret signature at 7 o'clock. This model is meant for a man’s wrist, but would also be suitable for the wrist of a lady.
