Eric's Pick Heuer introduced the Monaco reference 1133 in 1969 as part of a line of automatic chronographs. The self-winding chronograph was a completely new innovation at that time. This Monaco reference 1133G features a grey dial with black registers, which inspired a later re-edition. The 1133G was made from circa 1970 until 1974 and this particular watch is an early example. The Monaco was equipped with an unusual square-shaped case made by Piquerez. Heuer secured an exclusive deal with Piquerez for these cases. The watch remains famous as Steve McQueen wore a Monaco in the car racing movie “Le Mans.” Unappreciated at the time, the Monaco has now become a cult classic with collectors. The interesting case design, rich history, and innovative movement make this watch sought after by collectors and a statement piece.
The case is in good condition with some scratches. The case-back has some scratches. There are tool marks on the back of the case where the two pieces of the case meet in the four corners. The case appears to be unpolished. The dial and hands appear to be original and have developed a light patina. The luminous material in the hands and on the dial have darkened. A small bit of luminous material is missing in the hour hand. The case back has a small engraving - “C. 4957-4”- indicating it was likely originally sold in the Swiss market. The movement is in working order at the time of cataloging, consistent with the age of the watch.
The condition of lots sold can vary widely due to factors such as age, previous damage, restoration, repair and wear and tear. The nature of the lots sold means that they will rarely be in perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
