Patek Philippe introduced the reference 1526 in 1940 and it was in production until circa 1952. At the time this was the only perpetual calendar wristwatch in production on the market. Approximately 210 examples of this reference were made in the 12 year production period. This comes to approximately 18 per year, making this watch extremely rare and highly desirable. This reference was offered in yellow gold and pink gold and one example in steel is known. The case back is engraved, “Mario P. Nigra July 30th 1952.” It is possible that this watch was given to the original owner as a present since the original sale date was July 25th 1952 and the engraving on the back says July 30th 1952. The present example is cased in yellow gold this is a great opportunity to own an early perpetual from Patek Philippe.
