Lot Essay

This present watch is illustrated in John Goldberger's book, "Longines Watches", on page 132. It has beautiful blued hands, black Arabic numerals, a blue tachymeter track around the edge of the dial, and fixed lugs. It features a 60-second chronograph, perfect for timing short intervals. The gold rotating bezel features an internal triangle that allows for tracking larger intervals of time when placed at the location of the minute hand. This watch has a patented rhodium-finished lever movement and Glucydur screw balance. The patent was published in Switzerland on October 1, 1938 and is depicted in the book, "Longines Watches". With interest in vintage Longines watches continuing to rise, this watch offers tremendous value and is a rare opportunity to own a watch published in a John Goldberger book.

According to the Archives of Longines: "Originally, the serial number 5'733'417 identifies a wrist-chronograph in yellow gold 18 ct, fitted with a mechanical manually wound movement, caliber 12.68Z stop. It was invoiced on 30 September 1939 to the company Weil, which was at that time our agent for Peru."
