Lot Essay

Rebecca's Pick
This time only Longines reference 5965 features a beautiful two-tone dial with numerals in an Art-Deco style, blued steel leaf hands, and a subsidiary seconds register at 6 o’clock. Of note is the “FAB. SUISSE” signature on the dial, which matches the fact that the Longines Archives stating that the watch was originally delivered to France. The French government had import restrictions that frequently led to Swiss watch companies printing “FAB. SUISSE” on the dials of watches being sent to France. This is a beautifully understated and elegant watch that can be dressed up or down.

According to the Archives of Longines: "The original serial number 8'015'400 identifies a wristwatch in stainless steel bearing the reference 5695. It is fitted with a Longines manually wound mechanical movement, caliber 27M and was invoiced on 20 June 1951 to the Société Française Longines."
