Lot Notes

From a private collection

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The case and bracelet are in good condition with scratches. The case appears to be unpolished. The bracelet has some stretch. The dial and hands appear to be original and have developed patina. The luminous material on the dial and in the hands have darkened in color. The 4 o'clock pusher is missing the rubber cap at the end and does not activate. The other pusher is intact and shows signs of wear. We can start and stop the chronograph with the top pusher however we cannot reset because of the missing rubber cap. The crystal has scratches. The crystal appears to be original and has the “U” inside the shield etched in the center. The end links are stamped "UM" and the bracelet is stamped "3 66." The movement is in working order at the time of cataloging, consistent with the age of the watch. The movement has not been tested for accuracy. A service is recommended given the age of the watch.

The condition of lots sold can vary widely due to factors such as age, previous damage, restoration, repair and wear and tear. The nature of the lots sold means that they will rarely be in perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Lot Essay

There are various rumors about the purpose and origins of the Space-Compax, including that it may have been designed to unseat the Omega Speedmaster as the watch of choice for NASA. This model features the rare white registers with luminous blue register hands, as confirmed on the extract. Collector interest has increased for this watch in recent years and this is a good opportunity to get one.
