Lot Essay

Eric's Pick
The reference 2526 was the first self-winding watch made by Patek Philippe. This model came out in 1953 and was produced until 1960. This example is quite special because it has some additional features that are not on all of these models. This watch features “SERPICO Y LAINO” printed on the dial in the subsidiary seconds register with “S&L” and "18K" stamped on the case back, indicating it was sold by the legendary retailer in Caracas, Venezuela. This watch also has luminous hands and hour markers with an 18k Gay Freres reference "N" bracelet made for Patek Philippe stamped "Patek Philippe & Co" with PP logo on the outside clasp as well as "GF" inside the clasp. The dial with luminous plots and bracelet are both confirmed on the Extract from the Archives. The baked enamel dial is in outstanding condition with no visible cracks. The 2526 is one of the most sought after vintage Patek Philippe models and to find one in this condition, in this configuration with the reference “N” bracelet, is truly rare and an exceptional opportunity for a discerning collector.
