Lot Essay

In the early 1970’s, Rolex began to develop a quartz watch to keep up with the growing popularity of quartz battery watches. While the development of their movement took some time, the case in which the movement would be housed in was quickly designed, and Rolex decided to use the case for an automatic movement in the meantime. The reference 1530 was produced in (an estimated) less than 1500 examples, and discontinued once Rolex released the Oysterquartz model.
