Lot Essay
The Rolex Explorer was launched in 1953 to celebrate the triumphant ascent of Mt. Everest. This watch was created for people who challenged the elements and needed a reliable, durable and easy to read timepiece to accompany them. Over the years Rolex has changed the Explorer and in circa 2010 they made one of the most dramatic changes to this model; the case size was changed from 36 to 39mm. The present example is from 2010 and has the larger case. Rolex has changed the Explorer once again in 2016 but kept the reference number the same, however the version here is no longer in production.
