Lot Essay

Breitling developed the Chronomat chronograph for pilots in the early 1940s. The Chronomat’s design was inspired by engineering and mathematics. It features a rotating slide rule bezel that can be used for various calculations. Vintage Chronomats are generally found in cases of stainless steel. The present example is cased in 18k pink gold, which is uncommon. The Chronomat was a predecessor of the Navitimer one of Breitling’s classic models. This model features a non-luminous off white dial with red accents adding a level of sportiness to balance out the dressiness of the pink gold case.
