Lot Essay

Here we have a lovely silver-gilt bird box operated by sliding the bird on the front to the right. When the box is activated the red bird pops out and spins around flapping its wings. The bird box appears to be made by Griesbaum from Germany. At the time, the company was run by Karl Griesbaum and his brother-in-law, Karl Kiefer. The case and movement are in the typical Griesbaum fashion.
