Lot Essay

Edouard Koehn or Ed. Koehn (1839-1908) got his training in the workshops of Patek Philippe as a watchmaker. In 1891 he took over H.R. Ekegren. Keeping the company's name, he allowed the founder, who was also the chief engineer, to stay on staff until his death. Ownership of the firm passed down to Koehn's son Edouard and under his stewardship the company specialized in the production of flat or extra flat watches and complications as well as the improvement of the retrograde display mechanism.

Exquisitely made at the turn of the century, this elegant ladies timepiece is masterfully executed with a diamond-set bezel surrounded with vivid blue enamel. The bracelet is styled with amazing attention to detail, sapphires are set between the elongated diamond-set links. The hinged case back is engraved, "Sept. 5. 1912".
