Lot Essay

Founded in 2005 by Steven Holtzman, Maîtres du Temps brings a group of master watchmakers together to develop exclusive timepieces. By providing a platform and an opportunity to work together, Maîtres du Temps is dedicated to promoting the skilled watchmakers who craft the timepieces and harness their incredible talent. Each Maîtres du Temps wristwatch is classified in Chapters. Chapter One was developed and designed by renowned independent watch-making masters Christophe Claret and Peter Speake-Marin in 2008 and is truly innovative and exclusive in styling and design. The Chapter Two was a collaboration between the renowned independent watch-making masters Peter Speake-Marin and Daniel Roth in 2009.

The present model Chapter Three Reveal was the result of a collaboration between two prominent independent watch-making masters Andreas Strehler and Kari Voutilainen in 2012. This watch, equipped with Caliber SHC03, was developed by Kari Voutilainen with refinements and technical solutions by Andreas Strehle. This is the first movement developed by Voutilainen for a brand other than his own and features the fine finishing that he is renowned for. Andreas Strehler bring his extensive knowledge of horological technology and experience in producing the components to this project, thus ensuring reliability of the mechanism and innovation of the production process.

Andreas Strehler has a unique talent of understanding the complex construction of a timepiece simply by observing it. He completed a watchmaker apprenticeship in Frauenfeld, Switzerland and attended the Watch-making School of Solothurn. In 2001, Strehler made history as the youngest watchmaker accepted as a member of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI). Strehler’s Moser Perpetual 1 won the Complicated Watch Award at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2006.
Kari Voutilainen was born in Finland in 1962 and attended the watch-making school of Tapiola in Finland and later attended the watch-making school WOSTEP in Neuchâtel in 1990 which led to his employment at the atelier of Parmigiani, followed by a few years as a watch-making teacher for WOSTEP. In 2002 he became an independent Artist Watchmaker with his own atelier in the village of Môtiers in the Val-de-Travers in Switzerland. Voutilainen has won numerous awards at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève: Observatoire won the Men’s Watch Prize in 2007, V-8R won the Men’s Watch Prize in 2013 and Hisui won the Artistic Crafts Watch Prize in 2014.
