Lot Essay

This Mathey-Tissot steel chronograph checks all the boxes for someone looking for a vintage chronograph. The steel case is in excellent condition, seemingly unpolished. The dial and hands are original and preserved as one would wish for. The bezel has faded slightly with age and the domed crystal is correct for the watch.

If you are thinking that this watch looks similar to a Paul Newman Daytona, you would be correct. The dial was manufactured by Singer, the same company that made the legendary exotic dials for Rolex. The movement of this watch is based on the Valjoux 72, also like the early Rolex Daytonas.

This watch offers tremendous value and to find an example in this condition is very rare.
