Lot Essay
During the 1970s Cold War between powers in the Western Bloc (the United States, its NATO allies and others) and powers in the Eastern Bloc (the Soviet Union and its allies in the Warsaw Pact), a project was developed byNASA for a link in space between an American Apollo and Soviet Soyuz spacecraft. The mission successfully took place in July 1975 and to mark this important historical event, one year later OMEGA'sexclusive Italian distributor, De Marchi, sold a very limited edition of 500 Speedmaster examples. This was the first limited edition for an OMEGAwatch in steel where the limited production of 500 watches was destined for the Italian market. This is identifiable by the letter I encircled on the case back, followed by the production number and the OMEGA symbol. The current watch is number 288 of 500.
An example of the present watch is illustrated and described in OMEGA, A Journey Through Time by Marco Richon, 2007, p .615.

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The case is in good condition with very few signs of wear. The case has been lightly polished. The back of the lugs have scratches from the spring bars. The case back is in good condition with small signs of wear. The inside of the case back has watchmaker's marks. The pushers appear to be replacements as they are 5mm wide as opposed to the correct 5.5mm. The bezel is in good condition and correct with a scratch near 6 o'clock. The dial is in good condition and appears to be original. There is a small mark to the outer track between 12 and 1 o'clock. The luminous hour markers have darkened with age and the plot at 3 is partially lost and the plot at 10 o'clock has a black smudge. The hour and minute hand appear to be correct and the luminous material is a light green color. The lume is slightly dirtied in these hands. The chronograph hand is a later replacement. The end links are correctly marked '633' but the bracelet is a later replacement and marked '1171.' The bracelet is in good condition with little stretch and light signs of wear. The chronograph is working at the time of cataloguing. The movement is later and not original to the watch. The movement is in working order at the time of cataloging, consistent with the age of the watch. The movement has not been tested for accuracy. A service is recommended given the age of the watch.
