Lot Essay
This Patek Philippe clock was given to music producer Russ Regan from Sir Elton John in 1973. The clock is accompanied by an Elton John gold record. Russ Regan has been in the entertainment industry for over 30 years and was the head of major labels like Motown, 20th Century and Polygram records. Regan is responsible for playing a key role in the success of many recording artists including Elton John, Neil Diamond, and Barry White.
This desk clock is encased in a presentation box with a plaque inscribed, "TO RUSS AND JUDY WITH LOVE ELTON OCTOBER 1973." The gold record is RIAA certified making it a collector’s item on its own. The record is framed and matted to the period of the 1970s, similar to other RIAA gold records of this time. An inscription on the frame of the records, "PRESENTED TO RUSS REGAN TO COMMEMORATE THE SALE OF MORE THAN ONE MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF THE UNI RECORDS LONG-PLAYING RECORD ALBUM "ELTON JOHN."
The "Naviquartz" was publicly presented for the first time at the 1970 Basel Fair. These "Naviquartz" clocks are high precision timepieces primarily used for celestial navigation and determination of longitude. An accurate chronometer was essential to deep sea marine or air navigation when out of sight of land. The present example was originally retailed through Tiffany & Co. and has a Tiffany & Co. signature on the dial. This clock has a hinged stand on the back making it the perfect desk clock.
