The reference 5513 was launched in 1962 and ran until about 1990. The reference 5513 is one of the longest running, continuously produced references in Rolex's history. This particular example features a glossy black "spider web" dial, earning this nickname due to the cracking of the top layer of gloss on the dial. This watch features a 5512 case back. It was common for the reference 5513 examples to have reference 5512 case backs and for reference 5512 examples to have reference 5513 case backs. The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The case and bracelet are in good condition with scratches throughout. Both sides of the case have tiny nicks. The case retains the bevels on the edges, it is possibly unpolished. The bracelet has a lot of stretch and heavy scratches on the 6 o'clock side beneath the end link. The dial appears to be original, the hands appear to be replacements or relumed. The top layer of gloss on the dial is cracked. The crystal has scratches. The bezel appears to be an earlier 1970s insert with an aftermarket pearl. The movement is in working order at the time of cataloging, consistent with the age of the watch. The movement has not been tested for accuracy. A service is recommended given the age of the watch.
