Lot Essay

This Vacheron Constantin English coin watch has been taken care of exceptionally well with a recent service at the manufacturer in 2018. It is believed that this watch was originally purchased by Stella Roman. Roman was an international opera star during the 1930’s and 1940’s, appearing all over the world. Roman was chosen by Richard Strauss to sing the role of the Empress at the Italian premiere of his "Frau Ohne Schatten" at La Scala in 1940 and sang 126 times at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, staring in 13 different roles.

Her son emigrated from Romania to the U.S. in 1947 and was likely given this watch as a gift from his mother. The watch has stayed with the family since then and is being offered for the first time in this sale.
