ABOUT THE WINE
In 1850 the Comtesse de Lalande, born Virginie de Pichon Longueville, left her mark on the Château that would thereafter carry her name. In 1978, May Eliane de Lencquesaing inherited the property and continued the tradition begun by the Comtesse. Bordering the property of the Premier Grand Cru, Château Latour, the 86 hectares of this property stretch to the south of the Pauillac region and into the land of St-Julien. The distinctive character of this wine is due to the balance of Merlot (29%), Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Cabernet Franc (7%) and Petit Verdot (4%). Since 2007, the Estate has been under ownership of the Rouzaud family, proprietor of Louis Roederer Champagne. Between history and modernity, Pichon Lalande has inaugurated a new cuverie built in 2013, in order to keep alive this tradition of quality and consistency of its wines. Their wines express remarkable balance of "Pauillac" silky tannic structure and its famous feminine aromatic complexity. Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2005 is an exceptional vintage characterised by a balance between power and finesse. A sappy and silky texture, subtle and fresh red fruits aromas give to this wine a great ageing potential. The blend is 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot 6% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.
