ABOUT THE WINE
Of the three Léovilles, Las-Cases, Poyferré, and Barton, Las-Cases is universally the most admired. The estate, which stretches all the way from the edge of the town of St. Julien to Château Latour in Pauillac, is still one of Bordeaux's largest, though in 1840 the main estate was partially sold to Hugh Barton and Baron de Poyferré. Estate size notwithstanding, Léoville-Las-Cases's wines are made with fanatical precision, once by the late Michel Delon but now by his son, Jean-Hubert using grapes from the "grand clos ", a vineyard enclosed by a thin wall and marked at the entrance by a large arch, a notable Bordeaux landmark. Over time, Léoville-Las-Cases has retained its reputation as one of the greatest wines of St. Julien.
