ABOUT THE WINE
While its history dates back to the mid-19th century Pavie’s modern inception dates to the 1957 death of Parisian wine merchant and owner, Alexandre Valette. Troplong-Mondot passed on to one branch of the family, now run by his great-granddaughter Christine Valette, and Pavie passed to the other branch, run by his grandson Jean-Paul. Since 1998 Pavie is owned by Gérard Perse (owner of Monbousquet, Pavie-Decesse, Bellevue-Mondotte) who has taken Pavie to new critical heights, a rebirth of an ancient estate through a sheer drive, spare-no-expense and state-of-the-art investment attitude. With the purchase in 2002 of Château La Clusiere its 2.5 ha of vines have been incorporated into the production of Pavie. This allowance by France’s regulatory authorities was granted due to the similarity of terroir. Further allowances were given to the reintegration of lands under Pavie-Decesses’ control which helped to enlarge Pavie to its current 42 hectare size. Its vineyards are planted to 70% Merlot, 20% Franc and 10% Sauvignon.
