Noah's Pick
Port Ellen is one of the true cult, connoisseur’s dram. The distillery closed in 1983 and is seen as such as a Silent Still. Port Ellen is still available through independent bottlers, and from auction sources, when bottles come up at auction, collectors should snap them up, as they are magnificent whiskies.

ABOUT THE WINE
The Port Ellen was a distillery located in Port Ellen on the eastern coast of Islay. Port Ellen was established as a malt mill in 1825, and then developed as a distillery under John Ramsay from 1833 to 1892. It continued in production throughout the 1970s until it was closed in 1983. There are still stocks of Port Ellen in the hands of various independent bottlers and these days, the whisky enjoys cult status among collectors. The whisky is broad shouldered and powerful and the older expressions have a singular quality which charms connoisseurs.
