"At a profit if we can, at a loss if we must, but always fine bourbon." While this is a bourbon that needs now introduction, it is worth mentioning some of the attributes of the Pappy Van Winkle that has made the brand a household name. The barrels sourced for this extremely rare blend come from the heart of the warehouse, and the recipe favors rye over wheat, which contributes to its more complex flavor in the finished whiskey. A whopping, 94% of the bourbon in the twenty-three-year-old barrel will is lost to evaporation, known as the angels' share. This explains, at least in part, the rarity and the justifiably high prices.
