Layla's Pick
This winery, founded by Ricardo Perez and Alvaro Palacios in 1999, is a benchmark producer mencía. The Moncerbal vineyards, in particular, are noted for their high elevation at approximately 750 meters. The steep slope of these vineyards combined with the slate, quartz, and marble soils of the area create a memorably mineral wine. Moncerbal is made in extremely limited quantities, about 175 cases a year. So get it while you can!
