Descriptif du lot

Conceived in 1965 in wood and marble, Untitled takes the form of a small paw, a compact motif that occupied a lasting place in Louise Bourgeois’ imagination. Nearly two decades later, she returned to the composition in bronze, a material translation that underscores the object’s continuing significance within her practice. Its rounded, clustered forms relate closely to the bodily, animal, and psychologically suggestive imagery that recurs throughout Bourgeois’ sculpture, where familiar forms are often made strange through shifts in scale, material, and context. Cast in an edition of just one plus one artist’s proof, the present work is an exceptionally rare example of a form Bourgeois considered important enough to revisit across time.
