Rectangular with gold leaf-tip borders enclosing panels of translucent blue enamel over an engine-turned ground, the hinged cover opening to reveal a removable pencil and reserve for writing sheets, one side with the word Souvenir in diamonds to the cover above a portrait miniature of a man to the body, the other with a trophy of a quiver of arrows in gold above a miniature portrait of a child on blue satin, marked on the flange with maker's mark, date mark, and charge and discharge for Julien Alaterre, Paris, 1768-1774
